Cape Neddick- Pie In The Sky

We left Boston yesterday to drive up the coast of Maine. Passing through Kittery, there were many outlet stores and I wasn’t really interested in stopping to shop until I saw this:

I’m not gonna lie. I was excited and at the same time felt guilty that my it was my first stop and activity in Maine.

Trying on a couple dozen pieces of stretchy workout wear somehow made this place catch my attention in Cape Neddick.

Pie In The Sky is an in-home family business of 34 years is everything I admire. They use no preservatives, trans fat, animal shortening, and do use fresh fruit and high quality unsalted butter.

They fit a big operation into small quarters. It all just screams modest but gourmet.

Antique pots and old photographs makes for an atmosphere that is both established and welcoming.

Check out the huge mixer! The oversized cookie bars were tempting but we were here for pie.

After much thought and acting like this was our first piece of pie ever, we decided on the Wild Maine Blueberry.

It was everything I wasn’t expecting it to be. 1 slice and 4 forks was not the right ratio! I will never share this pie again.

The crust had that sheen you want with no eggy egg wash flavor. The crust was crispy throughout and not at all soggy on the underside which was against the filling. The butter did its job without being strongly pronounced. And the filling: fresh, juicy, and not at all like an over sweetened  jelly. Just pure, natural blueberry flavor. I went back in just to tell them how perfect their pie was!

If you bury a seed in the ground, why shouldn’t it sprout and then progress onward to a fruit or vegetable? How can something older than time, [...]

Spinach Feta Pan Fried Mediterranean Polenta Cakes & More

(Polenta cakes served with goat cheese, roasted veggies and hot sauce.) Polenta, which originated in Europe, is similar to grits as both are made from stoneground corn. The type of corn for each varies as does the coarser texture of the cornmeal used to make polenta. I consider polenta to be a great vessel for [...]

Clean & Budget Friendly Foods

I try to use as many organic, non-genetically modified, and unprocessed ingredients as possible. I do also look at sodium content, words I can’t pronounce and don’t recognize.  But I didn’t want my recipe lists to sound too wordy so I haven’t labeled every ingredient in my posts as such. I do understand others may have [...]
