Superfoods Smoothie

CLTVeggieWEB-42

I created this smoothie a day after I returned from travel and desperately needed to reinstate some health. It is clean and mild without any one strong flavor. Included are some of my favorite things that I consider to be superfoods.

  • Greens: mix of baby kale, baby spinach, and baby swiss chard (folate, iron, calcium, vitamins)
  • Berries (fiber, vitamins, low glycemic index )
  • Cinnamon (anti-inflammatory and aids in balancing blood sugar)
  • Hemp seeds (protein of choice this time and fiber as well as rich in Omega 3)
  • Almond butter (adds richness, flavor, fat, and protein as this was a meal replacement smoothie)
  • Dates (natural sweetener, fiber, magnesium)
  • Cacao nibs (potassium, magnesium, fiber, antioxidants)

I add my greens first as they are easiest for the blender blades to get through. Some green smoothie resources even recommend blending them briefly with your liquid of choice first and then adding everything else in.

The fresh or frozen fruit goes in next.

Hemp seeds, nut butter, cinnamon, and cacao nibs follow.

The birds’ eye view is really quite lovely.

Time Saving Restorative Slow Cooker Black Bean Chili

Time Saving Restorative Slow Cooker Black Bean Chili

We had a gorgeous 75 degrees sunny, Carolina blue sky day in Charlotte today. That alone begged me to get outside rather than spending time in my favorite place, the kitchen, But the reality is that it is December and a time of year during which more people than ever are sick, overwhelmingly busy, and [...]

Shortcut Asian Vegetable Basil Lo Mein

Shortcut Asian Vegetable Basil Lo Mein

As you may have read in my Get Well Sooner post last week, we had the go-round with colds last week. When the kids are sick, I try to balance what I want to get into them nutritionally with their diminished appetite as well as special requests. Because everyone deserves to be spoiled when under the [...]

Soul & Soreness Soothing: Yoga, Epsom Salts, Smoothie Bowls

Soul & Soreness Soothing: Yoga, Epsom Salts, Smoothie Bowls

I did a social and splurge shift between Thursday and Friday. I spent Thursday night indulging in ramen, and Friday I dared to participate in a yoga boot camp type workshop at Y2 Yoga. It was hard but many modifications were provided. Drenched is an understatement of how we all were at the end! I really enjoyed the [...]
